The Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil attended the opening ceremony of the 12th Defence Services Games 2022/23 held at the Gymnasium of Army Physical Training School, Sri Lanka Army Cantonment, Panagoda.
General Shavendra Silva attended the ceremony as a Guest of Honour at the invitation extended by the President of Defence Services Sports Board and Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana. Chief of Defence Staff was warmly welcomed by the president and thanked for his continued support and contributions towards the success of the field of sports in Sri Lanka.
Assuring continued assistance in the time to come, the CDS commended the effort of the President and the officials of the Defence Services Sports Board that has been devised in ensuring the sportsmanship of the Sri Lanka Defence Forces.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the Secretary of Defence, General Kamal Gunarathne (Retd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil as the Chief Guest. The Tri Service Commanders, senior military officers of Tri Services, officers related to defence services sports, sports officials and military sports men and women attended the occasion.
