The Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil and Mrs Sujeewa Nelson attended the first ever Katina Poojawa (ritual offering of new robes) organised at the pre-historic archaeological site; Kuragala Buddhist Monastery on 20 October 2022.
The long standing religious event was also blessed with the presence of most ven. Vendaruwe Dharmakeerthi Sri Rathnapala Upali Abhidhana Anunayaka Thero, Dimbulkumbure Sri Saranankara Wimaladharmavidana Anunayaka Thero and Niyangoda Dharmakeerthi Sri Sangharakshitha Vijithasiri Anunayaka Thero and 200 venerable Theros.
The series of programmes that saw the commencement yesterday (19 October), with an overnight Pirith Chanting ceremony was followed ‘Heel Danaya’ and ‘Dawal Danaya’ for 200 Buddhist Monks.
In line with the religious ceremonies, General Shavendra Silva and Mrs Sujeewa Nelson offeredthe newly constructed Maithree Bosath Statue for the homage of the devotees who visit this place of religious value. The statue was erected with the support of the troops of Sri Lanka Army.
Similarly, the Bell Tower (Ghantara Kuluna) that is donated by the Owner of the Kandy City Centre Mr Thusitha Wijesinghe was declared open by the Anunayaka Theros of Malwatta and Asgiriya chapter.
Recalling the hardships undertaken by the CDS and the troops of the Sri Lanka Army to re-state the glory of this site, the Chief Priest of the temple, Most Venerable, Waturakumbure Dammarathana Thero thanked the CDS and Sri Lanka Army personnel, with his blessings for a brighter future.
