CDS ATTENDS THE WELCOME CEREMONY OF THE OFFSHORE PATROL VESSEL

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, graced the formal welcome ceremony organised in line with the Naval Traditions to receive the P 627 (Ex USCGC Douglas Munro) at the Passenger Terminal, Port of Colombo (02 Nov).

The EX-United States Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) was a donation from the United States of America (USA) Coast Guard aiming to strengthen and develop partnerships to overcome common challenges in the maritime domain. As an extension of partnership ties that bring value to each other’s service, Ex-USCGC Douglas Munro was transferred as the third ship to be handed to Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) by the USA.

Expressing the well-wishes, the ceremony was graced by Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, the State Minister of Defence where the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Secretary of Defence, Tri Service Commanders, diplomats and prominent dignitaries were also present.
