The finals and the prize-awarding ceremony of the Army Inter Regiment Swimming and Water Polo Championship – 2022 got underway on Thursday (1) at Panagoda Army cantonment swimming complex.
The finals were witnessed by Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Chief of Staff as the Chief Guest in the awarding ceremony.
The two-day swimming meet was completed by 287 male and female swimmers of the Army representing 16 Regiments under novices’ and open categories.
Meanwhile, the Inter Regiment Water Polo Competition was held at the Panagoda Army swimming complex, and it was completed by 14 Regimental teams under open and novices’ categories.
Towards the end of the finals, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Chief of Staff extended best wishes to the players and gave away trophies and certificates to the achievers, together with Major General Channa Weerasooriya, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander Security Forces – West and Major General Shiran Abeysekara, Director General Financial Management.
The Army Aquatic Committee, chaired by Major General Nishantha Manage, Director General General Staff and Colonel of the Regiment, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment made arrangements for the conduct of those finals and the entire tournament which began in September at Regimental levels.
Several Senior Officers and Other Ranks watched the finals and the awarding ceremony.
