According to Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha, the current clothing code for teachers would not be altered under any circumstances.
He said this while speaking at a school event that took place yesterday, November 4.
Days before to the education minister’s comments, Joseph Stalin, the chief secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU), wrote to the education secretary requesting that schoolteachers be included in the circular about the dress code for public sector employees.
Stalin noted that although the government has permitted public sector workers to arrive at work dressed appropriately, schoolteachers are not included in this policy.
He explained that some schoolteachers are having trouble buying sarees because to the ongoing economic crisis and the rising cost of sarees.
