The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) says air quality in several parts of Sri Lanka has worsened.
According to the NBRO, a purple alert has been issued to the Battarmulla area in Colombo, which has recorded an air quality of 75.0 as of 11.50 am today.
Meanwhile, red alerts have been issued for Mannar, Vavuniya, Dambulla, and Kegalle.
The NBRO says the air quality in these areas falls under the ‘unhealthy’ category, with the public being warned of health effects.
Jaffna, Puttalam, Polonnaruwa, and Mullativu are the other areas in which the air quality has worsened.
However, a good level of air quality has been recorded in the Kalutara, Embilipitiya, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa areas.
