Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, has denied recent reports claiming that the National Fuel Pass QR system will be suspended from April 10th. The reports, which were based on information from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), had suggested that measures were being taken to end the fuel rationing system.
Minister Wijesekera clarified that no such decision has been made and stated that the National Fuel Pass data will be analyzed to gradually increase fuel quotas. He further added that decisions regarding the fuel pass system will be made in consultation with the Finance Ministry and other stakeholders over the next few months.
The National Fuel Pass QR system was introduced in Sri Lanka last year (2022) as a measure to tackle the ongoing fuel crisis in the country.
