New Deputy Chief of Staff Begins Office amid Greetings

Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP of the Gajaba Regiment, the newly-appointed Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) of the Army assumed office on Tuesday (18) at the Army HQ during a simple ceremony amid religious blessings.

As Buddhist monks, headed by Ven Aluthnuwara Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent at Kotte Raja Maha Viharaya began chanting ‘Seth Pirith’, Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP signed an official document symbolizing the acceptance of the new office. Towards the end of the religious segment, he offered ‘Pirikara’ and ‘Gilanpasa’ to the monks and paid obeisance to them.

Prior to this new appointment, Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP served as the Commander, Security Forces-Wanni for more than 21 months since the year 2021.

Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP had the distinction of serving as the Platoon Commander of the 4 Gajaba Regiment when the incumbent Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu was holding the appointment as the Adjutant in the 4 Gajaba Regiment. During the height of the war for peace before May 2009, Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP served as the Commanding Officer, 14 Gajaba Regiment.

Senior Officers, Officers, Staff Officers and Other Ranks joined the inauguration of the new office.

Here follows a brief profile of Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP;

Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP was born on 31 October 1968 in Kottawa and had his primary and higher education at Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya where he excelled in sports and extra-curricular activities. He joined the Army as an Officer Cadet in 1987 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into one of the most respected Infantry Regiments in the Sri Lanka Army, the Gajaba Regiment on 10 December 1988. He counts over 35 years of distinguished military service.

During his illustrious military career, he has held many appointments, inclusive of the office of Platoon Commander of 4 Gajaba Regiment (GR), Adjutant of 4 GR, Officer Commanding of 4 GR, Second in Command of 16 GR, Second in Command of 10 Gajaba Regiment, Officer Commanding Admin of Infantry Training Center (ITC), Brigade Major of 524 Infantry Brigade, Staff Officer II of Anuradhapura Transit Camp, Commanding Officer of 14 GR, Commanding Officer of Entry/ Exit at Omanthai, Staff Officer I at Joint Services Language Training School – Kothmale, Colonel General Staff of the 64 Infantry Division, Colonel Admin and Quartering of 11 Infantry Division, Brigade Commander of 652, 662 and 532 Infantry Brigades, Commandant at Minneriya, Infantry Training Centre, General Officer Commanding of 23 and 58 Infantry Divisions, Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps and the Commander, Security Forces – Wanni until on Monday (17 July).

The Senior Officer has been awarded the ‘Rana Wickrama Paddakkama’ and ‘Rana Sura Paddakkama’ in recognition of the gallantry and bravery, shown in the face of the enemy in the battlefield.

Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP followed a number of local and foreign courses; namely the Battalion Support Weapon course, Arty Observation Course, Unit Admin Course, Officer Weapon Course – Bangladesh, Young Officers’ Course – Bangladesh, Junior Command Course – India and Senior Command Course- India

He is married to Mrs. Deeparekha Ranasinghe and blessed with two daughters and one son.
