The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka launched the 19th edition of the “National Business Excellence Awards 2024” (NBEA), the flagship event of the chamber yesterday. The event will be held in June in Shangri La Colombo.

“Initiated as way back as 2004 by NCCSL, NBEA has maintained its highest standards and gained much recognition amongst the business community in view of recognizing the Sri Lankan business community that contributes to the economic development with exemplary business practices and governance,” said NCCSl President Deepal Nelson.

The structure of the evaluation process of NBEA is more focused towards emerging trends such as adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), transforming nature of the workplace, increasing tendency of getting attracted to trusted, ethical, environmentally friendly, socially responsible and with sound governance structure (ESG). “Many family owned businesses who participated in the awards ceremony were able to raise their standards due to following our criteria,” said Chief of the Panel of Judges Sunil Wijesinghe

He also said that some companies like family owned Pusella Farms which won the award last year have elevated the company to almost listed company profile when they were selected to win the award. He said that an award of this nature was created in Japan soon after the war to increase the quality of their goods which proved to be a major success.

The Competition comprises categories – Extra Large, Large, Medium, Small and Micro – and diversified industry sectors: it also creates the opportunity for 29 industry sectors to secure Awards, category-wise or on evaluation criteria. This year 92 awards will be presented to the winners (NBEA 2024), including Overall Excellence Winners of Gold, Silver and Bronze. (SS)
