Manith De Silva, a 17-year-old Sri Lankan young player won the Mid Essex Cricket League Premier Division Young Player of the Year award. Manith, who represents Aythorpe Roding Cricket Club in Essex, is an all-rounder who scored 236 runs in 15 matches last season.
He was also outstanding with the ball and managed to take 20 wickets, and made a great contribution to his team by taking nine catches. In this season, his best innings is recorded as unbeaten 71 runs and he also recorded the best bowling with 4 wickets for 21 runs.
Paul Gravatt, the captain of the Aythorpe Roding team, said that the all-round performance of this young player, who is popular among the players of the Aythorpe Roding Cricket Club by the pet name ‘Money’, stood out throughout the tournament and contributed greatly to the success of his team.
Manith, who studied up to the O/L at Richmond College, Galle, is currently studying further at The Philip Morant School and College Academy Trust in England. He is the son of former Chief Inspector Manjula De Silva of the Criminal Investigation Department.
