Discover how 24 Sri Lankans were released after being arrested at the unauthorized “Sri Lankan Summer Nights” concert in Kuwait
Kuwait City, Kuwait – The Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait announced the release of 24 Sri Lankans, including singers, who were arrested last Friday (2nd) during the “Sri Lankan Summer Nights” music concert. The event, organized by the Kuwait branch of the “Ethera Api” organization, was conducted without proper authorization from Kuwaiti authorities, leading to the arrest of 26 individuals by Kuwaiti police.
The embassy revealed that among those detained were event organizers and artists who had traveled from Sri Lanka to participate in the concert. Following the arrests, embassy officials promptly appealed to the Kuwaiti police for leniency towards the Sri Lankans involved. Their efforts were successful, and 24 of the 26 detainees were released yesterday (3rd).
However, the embassy noted that two event organizers remain in Kuwaiti police custody and are currently under investigation.
This incident highlights the importance of securing proper permits and adhering to local regulations when organizing events in foreign countries. The Sri Lankan Embassy continues to monitor the situation and provide support to the remaining detainees.
