ITAK senior leader Mavai Senathirajah clarified yesterday that the party has not officially decided to support Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in the upcoming Presidential Election. He stated that the decision to back Premadasa was made independently by MP M. A. Sumanthiran, and not by the party as a whole.
Senathirajah emphasized that the announcement of ITAK’s support for Premadasa was not an official statement from the party but rather a personal stance taken by certain members. He pointed out that key figures within the party, including MPs Shivagnanam Sritharan, Charles Nirmalanathan, S. Yogeshwaran, and G. Srinesan, did not participate in the ITAK meeting where the decision was reportedly made.
