The Sri Lankan Cabinet has given the green light to a program aimed at training 7,500 teachers in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative aligns with the government’s recognition of digital transformation as a crucial element of the national education policy framework. The program is designed to integrate support from both public and private sectors to harness AI and emerging technologies in education.
Following the successful completion of a pilot project led by the Skills College of Technology (SCOT CAMPUS), which specializes in practical courses on information technology, mechatronics, and robotics, the Cabinet has endorsed a joint proposal by the President, who also serves as the Minister of Technology and Minister of Education.
The program will select teachers from schools across all provinces and train them according to the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) concept. The training, which will be carried out in three stages, will cover information technology, biotechnology, engineering technology, and mathematics, with SCOT CAMPUS leading the initiative.
