The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has revealed an ambitious policy designed to enhance opportunities for Sri Lanka’s disabled community during an event in Colombo. Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa introduced plans to create a Presidential Task Force dedicated to protecting the rights of the country’s 1.6 million disabled individuals.
Premadasa highlighted the need for a robust national strategy and outlined several key initiatives. The proposed policy includes establishing a 3% employment quota for disabled individuals, increasing allowances, and eliminating taxes on essential equipment. Additionally, the plan aims to provide insurance coverage, facilitate access to bank loans, and offer specialized training and education programs.
These measures are part of the SJB’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and supporting the development of the disabled community in Sri Lanka.
