A young man in Nawalapitiya has reportedly been threatened and assaulted by Sasanga Sampath Sanjeewa, the local organiser of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), after refusing a handbill supporting presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa. The incident, captured on CCTV, took place at the victim’s father’s watch repair shop in Nawalapitiya town on Sunday, September 15th.

The altercation allegedly began when the young man declined to accept the campaign handbill from Sanjeewa and his supporters. It is claimed that threats were made, warning the man they would “deal with it” after the election.

Following the incident, the victim sought medical attention at Nawalapitiya General Hospital and has since been discharged. He has lodged a complaint with the hospital police post for protection.
