The Government of China will donate school uniforms to 4.3 million Sri Lankan students for the 2025 academic year as part of a grant. This assistance follows discussions between Sri Lanka’s Education Minister Susil Premajayantha and the Chinese Ambassador, along with other relevant Chinese authorities.
In addition to uniforms for schoolchildren, the grant will also cover the provision of robes for 825 piriven schools in the country.
According to the Chinese Government, the first batch of uniforms is set to arrive on November 13, 2024, followed by the second batch on November 21, and the third on December 20.
The Education Ministry noted that this initiative will be completely free of charge for Sri Lanka, saving the government Rs. 7,000 million. The uniforms will be distributed before January 20, 2025, ahead of the first academic term.
