A survey conducted by a group of lawyers suggests that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has the majority support of students from both private and state universities ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election. According to Attorney-at-Law Nalin Pathirana, the survey results indicate that President Wickremesinghe is favored by a large portion of the student population across the country.
Speaking to the media, Pathirana shared that the survey sampled 33,280 people from various regions. A Google form was used to gather public opinion, and the survey ran for a month, ending on September 7. Among the respondents, only 4.5% remained undecided about their preferred candidate.
Professor Nanda Dharmaratne, Chairman of the National Library and Documentation Services, also addressed the media, revealing that the survey predicts President Wickremesinghe will secure majority votes in 14 districts. These districts include Colombo, Gampaha, Galle, Matara, Badulla, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Digamadulla.
The survey findings provide a snapshot of potential support for President Wickremesinghe as the election approaches.
