Colombo BC wins Army Commander’s Challenge Trophy Cager title

Colombo Basketball Club emerged victorious with a comfortable 23-point lead, triumphing over the host team, Sri Lanka Army Basketball Team, with a final score of 87-64 in the inaugural Army Commander’s Challenge Trophy Basketball Championship concluded at the Sri Lanka Army in Panagoda on Friday.

Under the guidance of experienced Senior National Coach, President Sri Lanka Basketball Coaches’ Association Ajith Kuruppu, Colombo BC took control early in the game, leading the first quarter 21-20. The home team, Sri Lanka Army, trailed by two points at the end of the second quarter, with Colombo BC leading 38-36.

As the game progressed, Colombo BC captain Roshan Fernando, extended their lead to 16 points, finishing the third quarter with a score of 64-48. The final quarter saw Colombo BC maintaining their dominance, ultimately securing a convincing victory with a scoreline of 87-64.

Dasun Nilantha of the winning team earned the title of Best Offensive Player, while Pawan Gamage was honored with the Best Defensive Player Award. Simron Yoganathan’s outstanding performance earned him the prestigious title of Most Valuable Player.

The tournament, conceptualized by Sri Lanka Army Commander Lt Gen Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP, marked a significant initiative in the basketball arena. Major General Shewantha Kulatunga RWP RSP VSV USP, the Chairman of the Army Basketball Committee, provided leadership and supervision for the successful execution of the event.
