Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Karunarathna Paranawithana took his oath as a Member of Parliament before Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today.
Paranawithana fills the vacancy left by former SJB MP Thalatha Atukorale, who recently resigned from her parliamentary seat. Atukorale announced her resignation on August 21, citing various differences of opinion within the party.
As the next in line on the SJB’s list from the Ratnapura District, Paranawithana was appointed to fill the vacancy.
In addition to his role in Parliament, Karunarathna Paranawithana serves as the Politburo Chairperson of the Eksath Janaraja Peramuna (EJP), a party led by MP Patali Champika Ranawaka.
