Vino Noharathalingam, a Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Member of Parliament representing the Vanni District and the Ilankai Thamil Arasuk Katchi (ITAK), has announced his support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the forthcoming presidential election. The announcement, made in a statement from President Wickremesinghe’s campaign, highlighted the strong backing the president enjoys from the northern Tamil population.
Speaking at a press conference today (18th) at the President’s Political Office in Flower Road, Colombo, MP Noharathalingam emphasized that his decision reflects the will of the northern people. “The people of the North have chosen to support President Ranil,” he said.
MP Noharathalingam further explained that political and economic stability is vital for the country’s progress, crediting President Wickremesinghe with successfully navigating the nation through its recent economic crisis. He pointed out that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has stressed the importance of maintaining this stability, adding, “To ensure the continuation of the progress we’ve made, it is essential that the current president serves at least one more term.”
“We are halfway through this journey, and changing leadership now would mean starting all over again. If given the chance, President Wickremesinghe can successfully lead us to the finish line,” Noharathalingam concluded.
