Tensions escalated in Matale today as protesters demanded justice for the recent murder of a 17-year-old boy. The victim, along with two friends, had gone to meet one of their friend’s girlfriends. However, the boys were attacked by a group of people, including the girl’s father, leading to the tragic death of the 17-year-old.
Authorities have arrested three individuals, including the girl’s father, in connection with the killing.
The protest, which took place in North Matale, led to the blocking of traffic along the Kandy-Jaffna A9 highway, intensifying the unrest in the area.
