Sri Lanka’s Nethmi Ahinsa had to settle for fifth place in the Women’s 55kg weight class when she lost her Bronze Medal contest on day four of the fourth Under-23 World Wrestling Championships, continued in Pontevedra, Spain yesterday.
The 18-year-old Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist from Welpalla, Kurunegala eventually bowed out from the competition after going down to Alisha Howk of the United States 5-19 on points.
Earlier, Nethmi had the satisfaction of overcoming Tatiana Hurtado of Colombia 7-2 in a qualifying round fixture before losing to Mihaela Samoil of Moldova 9-15 on points in the quarter-finals.Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Men’s Team for the Under-23 World Championship includes Hansana Madushanka (57kg), Oshanda Matheesha (61kg), Maduwatha Sandaruwan (65kg), Lahiru Sumindya (70kg), Kusumsiri Madusanka (74kg), Rasindu Divan (79kg) and Sethusha Vishmika (92kg).
