The train schedule will be altered in stages beginning on December 15.
The Kelani Valley railway line’s schedule will be changed as of the fifth of the next month, according to General Manager of Railways Gamini Seneviratne.
He said that announcements regarding the changes to other routes would follow soon after.
Additionally, he states that every 5 to 10 minutes, the train operations will vary.
A representative for the railway department stated that there are challenges to the continued operation of the train service due to the lack of staff.
He also added that there has been no progress in filling the 8,000 open positions for employees.
Though no authorization has yet been given, Sri Lanka Railways claimed that it has asked the Public Services Commission for permission to fill the staffing gaps.
It has become challenging to call back retired employees because of this issue.
