CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF ADDRESSES 16TH BATCH OF DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil addressed (02nd December 2022) the student officers of 16th batch of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) which is to be graduated on 08th December 2022.

At the invitation of the Commandant DSCSC Major General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP psc IG to address the graduands customarily prior to their graduation, CDS visited the DSCSC where he was extended a warm welcome and received by the Commandant DSCSC and accompanied to a special chamber to sign the Visitors Book marking the occasion.

There were 148 Tri Service middle grade student officers (126 Local and 22 Foreign) of the DSCSC who underwent a one year period of committed learning on multidisciplinary domains mainly concentrating on Defence Studies present at the timely themed speech.

The senior most serving officer addressing the graduands on the theme “Evolution of the Armed Forces in the Dynamic Security Landscape” mentioned that the involvement of Armed forces as the principal savior of frequent natural disasters, pandemic and non-traditional security challenges have redefined the shape, role and utilization of armed forces in the present day. Further, he added that we as members of the armed forces live in a global environment that has become extraordinarily complex, difficult to understand and uncertain in its development. CDS further highlighted that the security landscape of any country is dynamic and ever evolving and thus the role of the Armed forces can never be framed into a particular role.

Towards the end of the lecture, CDS congratulated all the students for their upcoming graduation and wished for further professional advancement. Additionally, commending the Commandant and staff of the DSCSC, CDS conveyed his appreciation for understanding the national requirement and moulding the officers to meet that end abreast with its mission “To War with Wisdom and Knowledge”.

Day’s programme ended with the interaction arranged at the Officers Mess where CDS mingled with student officers and the Directing Staff.
