Government Plans to Lift Import Restrictions on Essential Products

As per a report by The Sunday Times, Senior officials at the Treasury have disclosed that the government is planning to lift import restrictions on around 100 to 150 products in the coming four months. However, this move will only take place if it does not adversely impact exchange rates, foreign reserves, or inflation.

It’s worth noting that the ban on vehicle imports will remain in place since lifting it would result in a significant drain of US dollars annually from foreign reserves.

According to The Sunday Times report, the products that are likely to have their import restrictions lifted include electronic devices such as computers, mobile phones, and televisions, as well as household appliances, stationery, food, clothing materials, leather products, cosmetics, medical equipment, spare parts, raw materials for industries, agricultural equipment, bathroom fixtures, and ceramic tiles.
