A Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) of 3 Sri Lanka Signal Corps (3 SLSC) serving the Security Force HQ-Jaffna with the vowed determination to join the Guinness Book of world records set off on a foot expedition from Point Pedro in the Jaffna peninsula on Tuesday (5 Sep) to cover 578 km in distance within 12 days.
The Staff Sergeant K.I.S Keerthirathna plans to complete the foot expedition before next Sunday (17 Sep) after crossing via Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Medawachchiya, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Colombo, Aluthgama, Galle and Matara before he reaches Dondra to end the journey.
Major General Y.A.B.M Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, General Officer Commanding, 52 Infantry Division, Lieutenant Colonel U.L.D.C Perera, Commanding Officer of 3 SLSC with Representatives of Guinness World Records Committee were there in Point Pedro to flag off the expedition amid cheers and applause. A brief religious programme blessed the expedition.
A gathering of Officers and Other Ranks were present at the inaugural occasion extending support to the adventurer, Staff Sergeant K.I.S Keerthirathna.
