National People’s Power (NPP) MP Harini Amarasuriya announced that the NPP intends to dissolve Parliament on September 22, leveraging the constitutional authority that allows the President to do so.

“We see no reason to continue engaging with corrupt individuals even for a single day. The President has the constitutional power to appoint a new cabinet and secretaries. On the 22nd, our leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake will make the best decision for our country, and we are fully prepared with the necessary arrangements,” Amarasuriya stated.

She explained that under an NPP-led presidency, the Cabinet and Prime Minister would be immediately dismissed, and that the required legal consultations have already taken place.

Addressing the media, Amarasuriya dismissed the notion of a caretaker government, describing it as a ploy to create further uncertainty. She criticized Ranil Wickremesinghe’s presidential campaign, accusing it of sowing confusion.

When questioned about President Wickremesinghe’s recent statements, Amarasuriya challenged his ability to appoint a cabinet capable of adhering to the five precepts. “He has spoken about Theravada economics, but before that, he should be asked to appoint a cabinet that can follow the five precepts,” she remarked.
