Gen. Shavendra sends Letter of Demand to MP WeerawansaOver accusing him of supporting to overthrow government
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva, has sent a Letter of Demand to MP Wimal Weerawansa through his lawyers accusing Weerawansa of bringing disrepute to his name during the launch of his book held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on April 25, 2023.
General Silva said that MP Weerawansa accused him of supporting a conspiracy to overthrow the government during his speech at this book launch and his defamatory remarks brought disrepute to his name. The former Army Commander has also cited that in the contents of the book it has been mentioned that he supported a conspiracy to overthrow the government.
He has sought a compensation for the damages caused to him due to the false and baseless accusations made by parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa.
The Letter of Demand states that the MP has made similar accusations against General Shavendra Silva during a television programme too.
